Currently, the Zed Run userbase is exploding.  There are now 40,000 members of the Zed Discord Server, and it is continuing to rise.  Articles in the New York Times (link) and a viral TikTok video have create a new boom, but we still lack a supply of new horses.  This article takes a dive into what new, and old, stables should be looking for in the secondary market.  Users can review an additional article on assessing horse value here.

Bloodlines

There are four bloodlines in the Zed Run ecosystem, and each has it’s own unique traits and scarcity built in.  The chart to the left shows how many of each genesis breed horses there are.  Nakamotos are the Z1 & Z2, Szabos Z3 & Z4, Finneys are Z4-Z7, and Buterins Z8-Z10.  Buterin are the lowest cost horses because of their large population, and Nakamotos fetch a high premium because of their unique traits and scarcity.

Breed and Gender

Breed and gender are very important when I am looking to purchase a horse.  I do not want to buy any elite breed horses and below.  I also do not want to purchase an exclusive stallion, but will happily purchase an exclusive mare.  Exclusive mares have the ability to breed with genesis breed horses and maintain exclusive offspring (link). Exclusive breed stallions cannot.  It is my theory that elite breed horses will be the best track performers because of the recursive nature of the exclusive mares.

Breeding Goals

Zed Run is a breeding game that tests a stables breeding prowess through racing. In order to maintain a bloodline, you must breed with an equal or greater bloodline.  A Nakamoto can only be created by breeding two Nakamotos.  If a stable breeds a Szabo bloodline with a Nakamoto bloodline, the resulting offspring will take the lesser Szabo blood.  Additionally, each bloodline has their own minimum breeding fees (link).

Conclusion

In conclusion, I do not want to buy an exclusive breed stallion or lower in the secondary market.  If I purchase an exclusive stallion, it would be for the express purpose of inbreeding with an exclusive mare I already own (link). I also want to breed the Buterin bloodline, because it will have the lowest mutation (link) and they have the lowest minimum breeding prices.  Also, it makes it easier to play with the community!
