Zest is the fantasy token that is used on the Play with Zest platform hosted on the NEAR blockchain. Users receive free Zest tokens when they sign up for the platform with an email address. They are then able to bet on the horses using the odds provided by the Zed Run team. These odds are similar to a morning line and do not move with wagers. This article is going to describe my strategy and how I went from 40,00 Zest to 2,000,000 in less than two days.
When I sat down to write this article, it did not play out as expected. The game has changed drastically with the number of players and quality horses being ran. It would be very difficult to recreate the same results as quickly. Most races are much more competitive than before and the lowest odds are often higher than 8. The example below would not be a race I would bet on, and these types of odds are now very commonplace.
My system of wagering Zest is to find a race with a strong odds favorite, and bet multiple horses within the same race. If the favorite was 6-1, I would bet 1,000 on the top 6 horses in a race. I used these small volume wagers to build my Zest to 40,000 by February. Below is an example of a race I would typically bet on, and were much more common before the large influx of new players.
In February, I decided the system worked and wanted to challenge myself to make 1,000,000 Zest in a day and had accomplished it before midafternoon. In this example above, I would have wagered 20,000 on Crimson Chin and the next three favorites since she is a 4.5 to 1 favorite. Crimson Chin is most likely to win and will cover my additional bets, but if one of the other horses wins I have a nice payday even after covering the initial bets. Below is a past example.
On rough estimate, I noticed I was winning 70% of races this way. Below is a screengrab of a page of bets.
As mentioned before, today’s odds are much more even across the race. This has happened because there are more new stables and the population of good horses has risen. However, users can still find races worth betting on. Below is another example of a race I would prefer to place a wager in.
When I sat down to write this article, I did not anticipate such a drastic change in the odds playing field. I think it would be much more difficult to reach 1,000,000 Zest today than in February. However, the proven system does build trust in the odds. It is important not to forget to avoid the gamblers fallacy when anticipating a longshot to win. This Forbes article analysis the IRL instances of longshot gambling.
I will attempt to recreate this system soon on a new account, and will post a follow-up article on the experience.
